The IGRS was established in 1936 in London to encourage and promote the study of Irish genealogy and to collect books and manuscripts of genealogical value.  Membership is open to all who have an interest in Irish genealogy.

The Irish Genealogist has been the official publication of the Irish Genealogical Research Society since 1937. 

It is well recognised as a forerunner in the field of Irish genealogy and for making a unique scholarly contribution in the field of Irish genealogical studies for over 70 years.
